Kuala Lumpur is the capitol and the largest metropolitan area in Malaysia. Usually abbreviated as KL the greater area of KL is known as the Klang Valley and is home to approximately 7.2 million people. Which is roughly the home to 1 in every 5 Malaysians. Like most metropolitan areas you tend to find yourself sitting at home with nothing to watch. Thats why a lot of KL-ites get decked out and make use of KL’s very active nightlife.
There are several big clubs that attract huge crowds every weekend. So if you have ever wondered what a Malaysian party is like here are some of the more famous clubbing areas.
Changkat Bukit Bintang or what some might refer to as Star Hill, is one of the main shopping areas in the heart of KL. You can find a variety of shopping and dining places here and a lot of these place turn to pubs, drinking holes and party venues come night time.
Similarly to Changkat Bukit Bintang, Asian Heritage Row is a wine and dine area that comes out to play at night. The theme of converted colonial buildings blends history with a little bit of party and you will have more than a few choices of places to get your freak on.
Beach Club is very popular among tourists and is listed in several travel guides as recommended places to visit in KL. It usually has a live band and plays disco. Just a heads up though. Not all those girls hanging around there are really “girls”. If you know what I mean.
Zouk originated from Singapore but in 2004 it opened a sister club in Ampang Road. It consist of a few different clubs and bars in one building. Zouk, Velvet Underground, Phuture, Aristo, Bar Sonic and Terrace Bar. Zouk organises several events yearly such as Zoukout, Cleo Bachelors, several charity events and many more.
There are many other up and coming places all over the Klang Valley however and far too many to mention. These few places should give you a taste of what the Malaysian nightlife and Malaysian Clubbing scene is all about. So have fun, enjoy yourself but don’t get too wasted and end up going home with a dude. Unless you’re into that kind of thing.
